Farming
|
 |
Over thirty thousand weeds grow and affect crops every year and this brings thousands of insects and nematodes that feed on
the crops and destroy them. As the population of the world keeps growing, farmers are going to depend on pesticides more and
more. I've read that if we stopped using man-made pesticides on crops that many people fear food production will dramatically
decrease, but is that more important than the health of the whole human race, animals, plants and mother nature? We definitely
have to learn new techniques for farming that are both efficient and ecologically friendly. Once we do this, it will save
so many people throughout the world from harmful and even life-threatening diseases.

In 1787, farming was the most popular lifestyle with 90% of the U.S. population living and working on farms. By the 1950's
the percentage of people living and working on farms dropped down to 16%. And in the 1990's 2% of the population farmed for
a living. This was caused because of the increase of factories that produced food. They had better pay and most people found
it easier work than running a farm.
Although the number of farms may be decreasing, the total food production is rising due to new technology such as tractors,
cultivators, and so on. This makes it possible for farmers to produce more food without having to buy more land.
